Why should we encouage children to be competitve?

I know, your all going to read the title of this blog and think where is this going to go? In this day and age we are taught the importance of equality, sharing, being inclusive and everyone being rewarded. Yes I do agree with all these values however where would we be without values such as determination, strength, passion, pride, drive perserverance? If no one lived by these values where would be our future leaders, managers, entrepreneurs? Where would be the inventors of the futures the individuals that fall at every hurdle but keep going and end up making a huge impact and difference. Where would we be if our doctors and nurses had given up when their training got hard, when our soldiers stopped when they thought they didn’t have the strength to continue, when our teachers thought they couldn’t possible stay up any later planning inspirational classes for their students?

What has this got to do with dance I hear you ask? It has everything to do with dance! In a dance class we are not just teaching the foundations of good dance technique and performance but we are instilling values that your children can transfer to every aspect of their life, that they can carry with them in to adulthood.

So when you hear the dance teacher say do it again, one more time, jump higher, faster, more performance! we are pushing for more determination, strength, passion, pride, drive & perserverance.

We are not just building potential dancers we are building strong empowered confident human beings that will go on to shape our futures. So next time you questions why everyone didn’t get a prize, a certificate or sticker just remember.

“You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing and falling over.” Sir Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin Group

Please encourage your children to keep going, not to give up and to always thrive to be the best they can be 🙂
